Eric Carlier is responsible for all client-related consultancy that includes sales consultancy activities in marketing, alliances, professional services, pre-sales support and direct sales for TIBCO Software Inc. For the last 5 years, Eric has focused on working with Telecommunications, Banks and payment services providers, across various geographies like US, Europe, Africa, Middle-East and South-East Asia, in shaping next generation payment services. Leveraging his cross-domain expertise across mobile, internet and payment, Eric has built a strong vision of the challenges and success factors of the promising mobile payment market opportunity. He is now engaged by the various regions to share his experiences and knowledge in this field of expertise. Prior to TIBCO Software, Eric started his career as a software consultant with Accenture in 1996. He has spent 14 years with software vendor companies such as Kabira Technologies and then TIBCO Software, designing and selling software solutions predominantly for the telecom and financial services industries.


Will Mobile Payments Ever See a Big Pay Day?

mobile paymentWhile a lot of news came out of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, the one item that caught our eye was the announced partnership between Visa and Samsung, a development that could give mobile payment a much needed shot in the arm. Under this agreement, Samsung would embed Visa’s payment capabilities into its devices that use the contactless Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, allowing consumers to make purchases by waving their devices nearby an NFC payment terminal.

This collaboration is needed if mobile payment is to gain any global traction. For the first time, we have a ubiquitous payment network allied with the largest smartphone maker in the world. So, what can go wrong?

NFC More Popular in Japan
